Basic Communication on the Internet: Email
Chapter Two introduced me to some new vocabulary and concepts that I wasn’t aware of before reading. Chapter Two Section One introduced me to the email protocols POP, SMTP, IMAP, and MIME. In addition, it contained some tips on managing multiple email addresses: one for professional, one for personal, etc. These tips may prove useful as I plan to split my current personal Gmail address into two emails in the near future. Section One also contained a lot of details I already knew on the structure and functions of an email program, such as the message header, body, and inbox.
Chapter Two Section Two, however, was a monotonous read that verbosely reviewed the basic functions of email software in a mind-numbing level of detail. I already knew most of these functions, as I’ve been using email since middle school; however, I did still learn a bit more about using email than I knew before reading this chapter. Specifically, I learned how to create, assign, and delete labels - which I knew existed beforehand, but now I know how to truly use them, if I ever need to.
