Chapter 4

Information Resources on the Web

Chapter Four expanded on Chapter Three’s discussion of search query operators. This chapter’s first section reviewed the Advanced Search feature, which compiled the previously discussed search query operators into a UI, which made using those operators easier to understand and use. In addition to those operators, Advanced Search has some unique features of its own, such as date ranges. I’m sure the Advanced Search feature will prove useful to me in the future, for whenever I need to find something very specific. The rest of this section simply reviewed multiple websites – such as news and weather sites – and how to use them, most of which I already knew about beforehand.

The second section of Chapter Four reviewed Copyright Law, online libraries, and other web resources. I actually knew quite a bit about Copyright Law beforehand, as I took an internship in Graphic Design last year, in which I had to be very careful about copyright in the works I created. The remainder of this section discussed online libraries, government websites, and graphics resources. I already knew about these resources, so I learned nothing new there. Nevertheless, this section served as a good review.
